SUNSHINE COAST FLOOR SANDING AND REFINISHING PROCESS

STEP 1

We start by giving the area to be sanded a thorough clean and punching nails deeper into the boards where required.

STEP 2

Then we sand the floor with a weighted rotary sander, which removes less timber than a belt sander, so your floor will last longer.

STEP 3

We continue sanding, using progressively finer grades of sandpaper to remove scratches and discolouration, and give your floor a smooth finish.

STEP 4

Next we sand the edges with a hand held rotary sander, with a final sand using orbital sander to leave a smooth, scratch free finish.

STEP 5

We then apply a water-based primer to your floor to prepare it for coating. If required, this can be followed by a thin coat of with a desired toner.

STEP 6

The last step is to apply two coats of a high density, two-pack water-based polyurethane for a durable finish.

Experience Counts

The Electrodry name is synonymous with quality after more than 35 years in the home cleaning industry. We've worked hard to ensure all of our technicians are highly skilled and that the right techniques are being used to achieve the best possible result. Last year our teams refinished more than 1,500 wood floors across Australia, restoring shine to dull, faded floors. See Electrodry Floor Sanding for more information.

Electrodry Won't Cut Corners

We take the time to provide exactly what your floor needs during our service. Electrodry’s weighted rotary sander takes less wood off your floor than a standard belt sander, helping your floorboards to last longer and meaning we can treat delicate timber without risk of damage.  Our qualified technician will use at least three grades of sanding discs during the job to reduce the risk of sanding swirls or scratched.

Floor Sanding Costs

You'll be pleased to know our costs are all-inclusive. There’s a $50 fee to inspect and quote the job, but this will be refunded if you choose us for the job. Your quote will include GST and the cost for the job.

Please be advised, the costs per square meter varies around the country and depends on the size of the floor and its condition. Book a technician for a quote with exact pricing, call 13 27 13, or email timberquotes@edry.com.au for more details on Sunshine Coast floor sanding.

FAQ ABOUT SUNSHINE COAST FLOOR SANDING

Remove all furniture and personal items from the room being sanded. Note, we can work around heavy items like fridges, if need be.

This will depend on the size of the job but generally a small job (single room) can be done in a day. Medium jobs, up to 75 square metres should take two to three days, while the timing for larger jobs must be determined based on the size of the floor and the amount of work required. We’ll chat to you about timing when we quote the job. Staining or doing extras, the time required will increase by 24 to 48 hours.

It will be ready to walk on the day after we finish the job, but we do recommend walking in socks for the first couple of days. Furniture can be replaced the next day, but you will need to attach new furniture pads under your furniture to prevent scratching. Heavy wheeled items must be kept off the floor for a week, along with most rugs and other floor coverings.

Many floor sanding companies use a technician and a junior apprentice, and apply two or three solvent-based coatings, taking a day to dry between each coat. Electrodry uses skilled two-man crews of experienced technicians, and we use a rapid-curing two-pack floor coating that lets us apply multiple coats of polyurethane in one day. That’s how we finish the job faster!

For most, finding somewhere else will be your most comfortable option. This is especially important if you are pregnant or suffer from asthma, as the smells and noise from our work may be problematic. If your most used rooms aren’t being sanded, you can choose to stay in the house, but note that you will not be able to access or walk through the rooms being sanded.

There may be odours while we are working and applying polyurethane coatings, but these will disappear quickly, and there should be almost no detectable odour within four hours. Electrodry uses high-quality water-based floor coatings that have rapid curing times and minimal odours.

Our dust capture system collects most of the dust we create while sanding. There may still be a light film of dust left on surfaces in the sanding area, but we wipe down surfaces as part of our process.

The sanding process will remove most damage in your wooden floor. However, some pre-existing issues may remain or could affect the final finish of your floor. These include:

1) Deep cuts in your floorboards cannot be sanded out, as the level we would have to sand the boards to would make the floor dangerously thin.

2) Weathered or water damaged floorboards may need to be replaced or may affect the tone and evenness of the end result.

3) Floors stained by urine may still have dark stains after sanding.

Electrodry Sunshine Coast provides floor sanding and polishing services for hardwood and engineered wood floors. Engineered floors have a 2-3mm timber veneer over Medium-density fibreboard (MDF), which can be safely sanded using our sanding process. Please note that engineered floors can only be sanded once.

Electrodry’s Timber Refresh and Timber Restore are excellent options for floors that have small scratches, are worn, discoloured or have a build-up of dirt and cleaning solutions. Both of these services take just one day and are cheaper than sanding. However, some floors need more. Electrodry Wood Floor Sanding is a great option if your floor is seriously scratched or unevenly worn. Our Wood Floor Refinishing page contains a full comparison between our different options for your floor. Whatever you choose, you can rest assured that the job is in the hands of the experts.
