Why The Electrodry Carpet Cleaning Is Unique
Paul Burchell, the founder of Electrodry, was an accountant by trade with a background if running businesses in the cleaning and maintenance industries. This included operating some of the first hot water extraction machines (otherwise known as steam cleaning) in Australia. In the early 1980’s Paul Burchell worked with a team of chemists in America to develop an Electrothermic carpet dry cleaning system which is now the basis for the Electrodry carpet cleaning system.
The word exothermic means to create heat. In the case of the Electrodry carpet cleaning system, a solvent based alkaline cleaning solution is applied to the floor and this solution reacts with an acidic rinsing solution. The acid and the alkaline react, creating heat and self-neutralising as they dissolve the oily soils in the carpet.
The carpet cleaning system developed by the scientists in the America uses a combination of solvents that very effectively break down oils mixed with water. Soiling in carpet is either dry soils, which we can remove by vacuuming, or oily soils, that usually require professional cleaning to remove. Oily soils are created when dirt mixes with oils or sugars, sticking to the carpet to create dark stains or traffic marks. The oily component to the soil often comes from oils released in cooking, food and drink spills, break dust and petroleum pollutants that we walk in from outside the home and body oils.
The solvents in the cleaning process, which are similar to the solvents your clothes dry cleaner uses, break down the oil so that the dirt can be released in the cleaning process. The addition of heat, which is generated through hot cleaning pads and the heat creating exothermic reaction between the alkaline cleaning solution and the acidic rinsing solution helps to permanently remove the stain.
At Electrodry, we make our carpet dry cleaning solutions in house and our system is exclusive to us. Some other carpet cleaners in Perth use a carpet dry cleaning, or bonnet cleaning system, but as far as we know, those systems use a cleaning agent with softeners and a ph buffer in the rinsing solution, not an exothermic carpet cleaning system.
Over 40 years we've continued to research and test formulations with the hope of even better cleaning results, however the system is so good, that only a few small chemistry changes have ever been made to our carpet dry cleaning system. How does carpet dry cleaning differ from carpet steam cleaning?
Steam cleaning, technically referred to as hot water extraction cleaning, injects up to 50 litres of water into each room of carpet and then attempts to vacuum that water back out. That’s a lot of water, and depending how much water is left behind, the carpet can take up to 72 hours to dry. You really need to have a technician who knows their stuff!
