WHAT IS A BAMBOO FLOOR?
Bamboo flooring is made up of long strands of bamboo cut into lengths and glued together with resins or polyurethane to form floor board.
Bamboo floors are cheaper than hardwood floors as bamboo is a renewable resource that grows quickly.
The coatings on a bamboo floor are very hard wearing and don’t easily scratch or wear in the early stages of its life. As the floor gets older it’s not uncommon for bamboo floors to look dull in traffic areas or show signs of heavy wear near doorways.
CAN I SAND MY BAMBOO FLOORS?
Manufacturers of bamboo floors such as Godfrey Hurst recommended that bamboo floors are not sanded. This is because:

TIMBER RESTORE
The convenient and effective solution to heavily worn floors.
■ Thorough deep clean with an additional detailing in worn area.
■ Flaking or bubbling coatings will be sanded by hand.
■ Colours may be added to the sealing coats to minimise the colour variation in the floor.
■ A high density, 2-pack polyurethane coating will be applied to the floor in your choice of Gloss, Satin, Matte or Ultra Matte.
■ Multiple hybrid polyurethane sealing coats will be applied to the floor with a special focus on the worn areas.

The final result we can achieve will always be a function of the original condition of the floor. For heavily worn or scratched bamboo floors, we recommend a matte or ultra-matte coating to help hide any remaining wear and deep scratches.
This floor in Brisbane was recently refinished with the Electrodry Timber Restore system. The floor was heavily worn at the entrance from 2 sliding doors and new bamboo floor board was inserted in the floor when the kitchen was renovated. The owners option were to replace the floor at an estimated cost of $13,000 or have Electrodry refinish her floor. The results speak for themselves.
