How to Make Natural Shower Cleaning Easy

Published on May 14th, 2019

Have you ever tried to clean a glass shower screen? We have a problem with a build-up of soap scum covering the glass. It’s a nightmare to clean – or it was before I discovered this easy way to get rid of the grime! And the best part is this process only uses one ingredient, and it’s totally natural! If you’ve followed the Electrodry blog for a while, you might be able to guess. That’s right, it’s vinegar! As you might already know, vinegar is great at getting rid of mould in the bathroom. Well, it turns out it also works wonders on your scummy shower screen!

How to Clean Shower Soap Scum with Vinegar

Vinegar is the absolute winner when it comes to soap scum. This method helped me clean my shower screen with very little effort. Here’s what I did:

Step 1: Fill a spray bottle with straight vinegar (or vinegar and lemon). The mild acid in both vinegar and lemons is what is helpful here.

Step 2: Spray the vinegar liberally onto the shower screen, and leave it to soak. To guarantee good results, spray the vinegar, set a timer for ten minutes, and give it another spray. Vinegar is a liquid, so some of it runs off the glass. I ended up spraying it three times and leaving it for a total of thirty minutes to soak.

Step 3: Use a microfiber cloth and hot water to wipe/scrub away the soap scum and calcification. When I did my ‘test’ patch, the scum came off easily – no elbow grease required! Later I cleaned the whole shower screen and only left the vinegar for ten minutes. It still worked, but required more scrubbing! So if you have a lot of build-up, I’d recommend spraying a few times and leaving it to sit for a full half hour.

There you have it! Our fool-proof way of cleaning soap scum in the shower without spending an afternoon scrubbing!
